Metallographic Evaluation

Metallographic Evaluation of Welds

There are multiple issues with a weld that are not evident based on mechanical testing.  Information about internal defects such as porosities, cracks, and phase segregations can only be obtained by metallographic evaluation of the welds.  Such defects may not affect weld strength but could have drastic effect on fatigue strength and corrosion behavior of the welds in the long run.  Other characteristics such as identifying if a weld is a solid-state bond or fusion weld can only be done with a metallographic evaluation.  WJM Technologies offers cross-sectioning services and complete metallographic evaluation of welds (based on optical, SEM, or other advanced techniques as required) including detailed written report.  Such a weld evaluation helps clients to benchmark the weld and keep track of weld quality over a period of time.
